Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Deaths of Two Camp Pendleton Marines: 2nd Lt. James P. Blecksmith and Lance Cpl. Kyle W. Burns

Governor Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding the deaths of 2nd Lt. James P. Blecksmith, of San Marino, CA, and Lance Cpl. Kyle W. Burns, of Laramie, WY, both of whom were stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA:

"Courageous soldiers such as James and Kyle dedicate their lives to keep us safe and protect our liberty, and Maria and I are forever grateful for their service. Their devotion and bravery serve as a model for all Americans. Our prayers go out to their loved ones during this difficult time."

Blecksmith, 24, and Burns, 20, died Nov. 11 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Blecksmith was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, CA. Burns was assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, CA.

In honor of Blecksmith and Burns, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
